2026 Early Career Research Award to Megan Ennes

Megan EnnesDr. Megan Ennes is an outstanding early career scholar whose rigorous, equity-centered research in informal science learning, environmental education, and broadening participation makes her highly deserving of the NARST Early Career Research Award. Since earning her degree in 2019, she has established herself as a leader in examining how youth and educators engage with science in museums, science centers, and community programs, with particular attention to identity development, self-efficacy, and STEM career exploration. Her interdisciplinary work bridges science education, museum studies, and environmental education, producing impactful scholarship such as her research on science capital with 60 families across three museums—work that deepened understandings of cultural capital, improved student outcomes, and inspired parents to pursue STEM pathways. This program was so successful that one museum continues to run it without external funding, a testament to Dr. Ennes’s leadership and contributions. Her additional research on museum educators’ self-efficacy further demonstrates her commitment to making science more accessible, inclusive, and relevant for diverse learners.
