Message from the President, Jan 2016
2016 NARST Annual International Conference in Baltimore, Maryland
A decision was made that there will be only one plenary session and two Presidential Sessions. The two Presidential Sessions will focus on different aspects of the theme Toward Equity and Justice: Many Different Voices, Cultures, and Languages in Science Education Research for Quality Learning and Teaching. One Presidential Session focuses on student engagement, disengagement, and alienation in science education, while the other one will be entitled “Where Should Science Education Be with Respect to the Conversations and Cultural Unrest in Our Academies?” In addition, NARST members will have the opportunity to give their presentations in a language other than English; however, the written paper and PowerPoint slides will be English.
Participation in the Sandra K. Abell Institute for Doctoral Students (SKAIDS)
The co-directors of SKAIDS invited me to serve as a mentor during the 2015 summer session at the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was an informative and learning opportunity for me as a researcher to work with the students and the other mentors and as a NARST Board member to become more familiar with SKAIDS as a NARST-sponsored program.
