NARST Travel Award: ASERA 2026
Application Submission deadline: April 10, 2026
NARST will award two graduate students each $2,500, to participate in the Australian Science Education Research Association (ASERA) Conference taking place June 30 – July 3, 2026 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
For you to be eligible for this award, please submit the following items in ONE document:
- Ph.D university student status (i.e., letter from your department chair or institution)
- Proof of being a current NARST member
- Accepted ASERA proposal notification (if acceptances have not gone out yet, include evidence that you submitted an abstract for the ASERA Conference)
- An abbreviated two-page CV in one-page highlighting publications and conference presentations
- 400 words about why you want to attend ASERA, and the benefit of attending ASERA
- A detailed budget explaining the expenses for ASERA and other financial sources
- If you have received another NARST award for 2026 and the kind of award you have received
- Any NARST award you have received in the last five years
Application process: Complete the application via this submission form and providing the following information:
- Personal Information page: Name, country where you are studying Ph.D., and year in Ph.D. program
- The eligibility requirements listed above, submitted to the form as ONE document with the file name: [NAME] ASERA.
Complete Your Application by April 10
ASERA’s 2026 Conference features a special workshop for Higher Degree by Research students and early-career researchers. This workshop is held every two years on the Tuesday of the Conference and is run by experienced science education academics as a way of supporting those at the start of their academic careers. The recipients of the NARST travel grant will have a spot reserved for them in this program.
2026 ESERA Research School Scholar
Scholarship deadline: April 10, 2026
NARST is offering two (2) scholarships to support attendance of PhD students, and one (1) scholarship to support attendance of a Mentor, at the 2026 ESERA Doctoral School, taking place June 29 – July 3, 2026, in Esch-sur-Alzette/Belval, Luxembourg. NARST members are encouraged to apply.
The main purpose of the funding is to support the learning experiences of science education doctoral students by providing an opportunity to meet with science education researchers and peers from other parts of the world.
The ESERA Research School provides Doctoral student participants with the opportunity to explore various aspects of the research process in a supportive environment, hosted by a team of invited experienced researchers from regional and international universities who run plenary sessions and workshops focused on issues of research design and theory, data collection and analysis, and writing for publication. Participants bring their own research data and writing with them, and in the workshop sessions they are able to share their work with others and get feedback from peers and experienced researchers.

Funding:
Doctoral Students: NARST will award two scholarships this year. Each scholarship has a maximum amount of $2,500, which may be applied toward costs for travel, accommodation, and participation. Any costs beyond this amount are the responsibility of the individual student.
Mentor: NARST will award one scholarship this year for $1,000 to support a NARST member to serve as a mentor to help facilitate workshops at the Research School.
Eligibility:
Doctoral Students: The eligibility requirements detailed below will be used to evaluate applications and select awardees.
- Letters of Recommendation: Two brief letters of recommendation are required.
- Ph.D university student status (i.e., letter from department chair or institution)
- Proof of NARST membership
- Notification of an accepted ESERA proposal and Abstract
- An abbreviated two-page CV in one-page highlighting publications and conference presentations
- 400 words about why you want to attend ESERA, and the benefits that attending ESERA will offer
- A detailed budget explaining the expenses for ESERA and other financial sources
- Whether you have received another NARST award for 2025 and, if so, name the award you received
- Any NARST award you have received in the last five years
Mentors: The eligibility requirements detailed below will be used to evaluate applications and select awardees.
- Proof of NARST membership
- A short (2-3 page) CV
- A brief (2-3 paragraph) statement of why you want to be a mentor
