NARST Elections 2026-2027
Call for Nominations for President-Elect, Director-at-Large (3), and Graduate Student Coordinator
We are pleased to announce the call for the 2026–2027 elections for leadership positions for NARST: A Global Organization for Improving Science Teaching and Learning through Research.
Following the NARST Bylaws, current members of NARST are encouraged to nominate potential candidates for offices by following a simple nomination procedure. We invite you to help us advance and improve NARST by soliciting the participation of dedicated and effective leaders.
During this election cycle, a President-Elect, three (3) NARST Directors-at-Large, and a Graduate Student Coordinator will be elected. Information about these positions is available here.
Review the nomination process outlined below, and please nominate yourself and/or qualified colleagues for the open positions.

The Nomination Process
- All nominators (self or otherwise) must use the appropriate submission form to ensure all required information is entered for the Election Committee’s review.
- If the nominee for the President-Elect position has not previously served on the Board, the nominator must upload evidence of endorsement from ten (10) NARST members. Endorsement may be provided by email. The following text is sufficient for endorsement.

Expectations of Eventual Candidates
Eventual candidates (those included on the elections slate) are expected to adhere to NARST policies and regulations, including the NARST Election Campaign policy (see below), which prohibits campaigning, the NARST Conflict of Interest policy, which requires the disclosure of potential conflicts of interests, and Confidentiality. These policies and others are included in the NARST Policies and Procedures.
NARST Election Campaign Policy
NARST prohibits campaigning for all elections. In addition, all NARST members are also prohibited from campaigning for candidates, including candidates other than themselves. The NARST publication of each candidate's biographical data, photo, and position statement shall be the total extent to which NARST members are informed about candidates for office. Any communication—oral, written, or electronic—sent by the candidate to all or a subset of members may announce only the names of all candidates for each office and the details of how and when to vote. Candidates whom the Board of Directors has determined to have violated this policy will be disqualified with the right to appeal.
NARST Elected Office FAQs
How often does the Board meet?
NARST Bylaws require a minimum of two Board meetings each year. These take place in-person – once in the Spring at Conference and once in the Fall (late Oct. / early Nov.). Additional virtual meetings may be called at the discretion of the NARST President, and generally are every other month, for ~2 hours.
What support does NARST provide for attendance at the Board meetings linked to the Annual Conference?
- For an in-person Annual Conference board meeting, NARST pays for two nights of hotel for current board members and one night for incoming/outgoing board members.
- For an in-person Annual Conference board meeting, NARST covers hotel, meal expenses, and transportation to and from the annual conference for the Graduate Student Coordinator and board leaders from countries listed in the UNDP HDI 0.800 and below.
How are Board meetings at times other than the annual conference handled?
For an in-person Fall Board meeting, NARST reimburses all board members for hotel, meals, and transportation to and from the meeting.
What support is there for elected officials?
NARST allocates $4,000 for the President-Elect, $4,000 for the Immediate Past President, $4,000 for the Secretary-Treasurer, and $8,000 for the President to cover NARST-related expenses that they incur in fulfilling their duties during their respective terms.
