Jennifer Bateman Candidate Statement
Jennifer M. Bateman
Candidate for NARST Graduate Student Coordinator
Institutional Affiliation: Clemson University
I am excited to be nominated as the NARST Board of Directors graduate student representative. After attending the NARST 2022 conference in Vancouver, I became interested in becoming involved with the organization as a whole. Recently, I worked on the graduate student
sub-committee to plan and implement the NARST Grant Writing Workshop Webinar. I am also serving on the sub-committee planning graduate student events for the upcoming 2023 conference. Aside from my service to NARST, I have supported the Graduate Student Forum of ASTE as the Vice President and served as the Chair of the first annual Graduate Student Research (GSR) Conference for the College of Education at Clemson University. The GSR conference aimed to create a safe space for all graduate students to share their work and receive peer feedback. I look to share and create the same space for graduate students at NARST. Supporting graduate students through work in progress posters sessions or presentations allows them to engage with the NARST community in meaningful and scaffolded ways. I hope to support the cultivation of graduate student research and relationships to promote a strong, upcoming generation of early career scholars. I believe I have the ability to represent the graduate student community equitably and bring current issues facing graduate students to the forefront with the NARST Board and our community.
